What I would change about my university and my carreer

My university life has been quite lengthy as I have attended two different institutions, UMCE for 3 years and now the Faculty of Arts at the Universidad de Chile. The first noticeable difference is the lack of vegetation in the current university. The building has two recreational areas, the terrace and the passage, but neither has any trees or real grass. This is one of the changes I would make at a general level. However, there's one thing I wouldn't change for anything in the world – the break weeks. I believe it's a crucial benefit for mental health, both for students and professors.

Speaking of the professors I've had, some have been at the university for a long time, and you can see the fatigue due to the workload, especially for those in organizational roles within the program. It would be beneficial if they could focus entirely on good organization to avoid being shaky in the classes they teach. Alternatively, increasing their salary could serve as an incentive.

On another note, I would make a specific change in my program, which combines mathematics and music. Sometimes, I find it challenging to switch between the two and integrate them. However, I recognize that it's necessary to have the ability to address technical challenges and speak at least a bit of the musical language to understand musicians.

Time Travel to the future or past

To travel to the past or to the future? Well, I would like to travel to both, to know the different historical milestones that have happened in Chile from my own vision, meet some historical characters like Manuel Rodriguez and the Carrera and their role in the independence of Chile, I would have saved Manu from such a coward murder, it would be interesting to analyze what would have happened. On the other hand, I would like to know if Salvador Allende really committed suicide or if they killed him or even if he escaped, I don't really believe the last one. And to the future, I would like to travel a hundred years ahead to know first if we survive as a species, what changes there were and if what is coming is promising, well if it's not promising I will probably die and couldn't go back to the present hahaha, if there is life I would like to know what kind of music is heard and the new thinking, which I hope is more free in terms of inclusion in all aspects, equality and greater contact with nature, free of cables, please, that ruin sunset photos. I would also like to know what new educational paradigms there are in Chile mainly, I hope there is an increase in teacher salaries and an increase in the number of teachers and classrooms, so as to have smaller class sizes like in Finland. I think the future can be promising if each individual changes and does things right, and encourages others to do so.

My future Job

When I finish my degree, I would like to work for a while in sound reinforcement, at big shows, because I have not had the chance to attend so many music events, and the times I have gone, I have been impressed with the huge setup that goes into staging and, more importantly, sound. On the other hand, I would take the opportunity to meet musicians and cool people.

I would also like to work as a music producer for rock, pop, or fusion bands. I would need to improve a lot as an arranger or in more technical aspects such as mastering and mixing. Learning skills like working as part of a team with musicians in a creative environment, being able to blend all those ideas into a song that the band and the target audience would enjoy.

Later on, I would like to study a master's or a doctorate to research some sound-related field that requires technology and hopefully contribute new knowledge and implement improvements to what already exists. It seems to me that there is still a lack of research regarding sound and the regulation or control of noise (high sound pressure level) in places like nightclubs, which can be harmful to people's hearing health, whether they attend or live nearby. I also want to work on some personal project. When I'm older, I would like to get back into teaching to contribute my knowledge to a school or university.

A la velocidad de la Luz! tell me, what is your favorite song of Los Bunkers?

I remember that concert as if it was yesterday because it took us by surprise while we were on vacation with my family and a friend in la Serena city. I was 14 years old. One day, we went down to the beach, and I noticed that there were posters with photos of Americo and Los Bunkers on an electricity pole. They were performing the next night, and the concert was free. I was excited because it was the music I listened to the most, especially Los Bunkers. I told my parents to take us, and I wasn't going to take no for an answer because it was free.

Before the concert, my brother, my friend Alvaro, and I were learning to whistle, and people looked at us strangely, hahaha. When Americo started singing, the crowd did too. He is a great singer, but when Los Bunkers started, I felt like the floor was moving with people jumping. Now that I think about it, it could have been due to the powerful sub-bass.

I have been to a few concerts, in fact I could count them on my fingers, but I will have money to go to concerts 😎

In fact my favorite song of Los Bunkers is "Nada Nuevo Bajo el Sol".

Scotland: Between The Loch Ness Monster and 'Gaita'

When I was a child, I liked the movie 'Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness Monster' very much because in this moment I was fascinated by dinosaurs and love mystery. Then, four years ago, I watched a series called 'Outlander,' and I was impressed by the beautiful landscapes. The plot revolved around a love story mixed with the lifestyle of the Highlanders in Scotland during the Jacobite Rebellion in 1745, which was a religious and political conflict between Scotland and England.

You might wonder why I mentioned the Loch Ness Monster. Well, it's because it's a legend of Scotland.

I would like to visit Scotland for all the reasons I mentioned, and because I would like to buy a Kilt and bigpipe. This is a skirt with a lot of vertical folds, traditionally worn by Scottish men.

I would also like to work in Scotland because I really enjoy mountainous places and want to study the power of the sound of the bagpipes (Gaita in Spanish).

Chalo Gonzales

I admire Chalo Gonzales beacause is a good people and excelent musical producer and recording engenier, the sound that it reaches in the songs is unbeatable. On the other hand, he has worked with many artists that I like, such as Makiza, Mon Laferte, Los Bunkers, Jonas Sanche, Inti-Illimani, Young Cister, etc.

He has been repeatedly invited to give talks and show the processes and logic behind mixing and mastering.

He said the producer tries to fulfill the dreams of the musicians, improving or getting as close to their references.

He is a engineer and Producer since 1990

In 2021 he received his first Latin Grammy for the mix and mastering of the album ¨Seis¨ by Mon Laferte.

This 2023 he was nominated for Best Latin Album at the Grammy (USA) with the album ¨1940 Carmen ¨, by Mon Laferte, ( Mastering )

Today, he has his own space at G Masters.

A photo of Kenai and me

It's a photo from April 2018 that was taken by my ex. Her dog Aika gave birth to 5 puppies and when I saw Kenai, he captured my heart, and I wanted to adopt him. That day, I brought him home without telling my parents, but they immediately accepted him because he was so adorable that they couldn't resist. I named him Kenai because he is like the bear of the movie 'Brother Bear,' in this day, he remains cute and playful, although he has a few gray hairs.

He has meant a lot to me, and I feel like we've been through a lot together. He has been there in the good times and the not-so-good times. Animals can sense when something is not right, and they try to cheer us up, and vice versa. When we feel that our pet is not well, we do everything possible to ensure their well-being, just like a child.

My favourite piece of technology

GeoGebra is an application that you can download for your cellphone. It is very useful as it helps a lot in subjects such as Calculus, Programming, Algebra, and others. How does it help you? If you have a mathematical function, you can write it, and GeoGebra will graph the curve or solid for you. It can even graph multiple functions and find intersections between them.

GeoGebra allows you to calculate angles, distances between points, areas of regions, volumes of solid bodies, create triangles with three points, squares, circles, etc. It is a very useful tool for academic purposes and even for teaching classes since it allows you to manipulate parameters over time, which can be used to create animations.

In addition to being a mobile application, GeoGebra is also available as a PC program, and there is an internet version that works with server memory. However, it sometimes crashes, so the app and PC program are considered better

Why did I choose my career?

I am studying Sound Engineering mainly because I enjoy understanding the relationship between music and math and how to apply these relationships to technology. Additionally, this field includes musical classes, which I appreciate, not only focusing on mathematics, physics, and electronics.

Previously, I was studying Mathematics Pedagogy at UMCE because I like teaching what I learn, and I believe that education can bring about positive change. However, I did not feel prepared for such responsibility, and the math we were studying was too abstract, and I did not understand its applications.

To get to this carree the first I did was freeze the carreee and start studying in Puntaje Nacional (Youtube Channel) to take the PTU while also working because obviously my mom was´nt going to accept that I was free in home. It was very hard but fortunatly I stayed and I´m here.
